About Ambient
I am approaching this section of AmbientExotica.com from a different, more personal angle: I am not going to review solely brandnew and fresh Ambient music because there are many places that concentrate on the latest and greatest releases, which is entirely fine by me and which I do not exclude as a scheme for this website at all! After all, that's how the music press works and that's the way successful blogs are often structured as well. The only exception these magazines and sites grant themselves is when they review historically important material like "10 years ago on this day". Their exception ought to be my policy. I am reviewing new releases every so often, even on a weekly basis, but at the same time I am trying to focus on both classic Ambient albums and on the various Ambient releases or songs that aren't necessarily considered as classics but that in my opinion are still worth a listen, regardless of their age and their artist. Some artists have created astonishing Ambient works that don't fit into the rest of their complete works. It's releases like these that interest me as well, and if these releases are thematically inappropriate as a whole for the topics of this website, I at least present a single tune off those in the Ambient Song Of The Month column.
The benefit of this approach is a broad variety of artists, Ambient styles and years. The disadvantage, alas, is the slow build-up of this website, as this is a one-man project. I am sure that I have more than one blind spot when it comes to special Ambient niches and artists. So please don't hesitate to contact me and point me to new and unexplored directions that aren't featured on the website yet. I am looking forward to hear from anyone of you, whether you're an artist, a reader or a hater!
The Ambient Review section is updated every Wednesday.
